Support inclusive advertising!

John Hancock is launching a new ad campaign (for ‘insurance for the unexpected’) to run during the Olympics, which they previewed on NBC this past weekend during the gymnastics nationals. One of the ads features a couple in an airport, returning from having just adopted a newborn asian baby. The great part about this ad is that the couple is two women. The commercial ends with one woman saying, “You’ll make a great mom” and the other one saying “You will too”….

There’s been a lot of negative feedback to our ad department about this ad in particular. This is a big step for John Hancock, and I think it’s great that they took the opportunity to portray other “families” that might need insurance, on national TV. The other ad is about a single mom.
